Hal Arenstein is a 1979 graduate of Case Western Reserve University College of Law. His 25 years of practice has been confined to criminal defense in both State and Federal Courts. He recently was qualified as an expert in the Federal Sentencing Guidelines in the Federal District Court in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. Arenstein has testified for the defense in a federal criminal case as a witness on the Sentencing Guidelines and the substantial benefit the cooperating co-defendant received in exchange for testifying on behalf of the government. He is a past president of the Greater Cincinnati Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and was recently elected to a second term on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Criminal Defense lawyers. He formerly served as Co-Chair of the NACDL Membership Committee and through his efforts, membership for NACDL has exceeded 10,000 members. Mr. Arenstein is now Co-Chair of the Legislative Committee. He was voted one of the Top Lawyers in Ohio for 2011.
Mr. Arenstein is a frequent lecturer on various areas pf trial practice. His presentations include "Defending Individuals Charged wit Sexually Abusing Children," "Discovery Issues in Complex Criminal Litigation," " Miranda and The Pre-Trial Statement," "Preparing for the Snitch," "Post Traumatic Stress Disorders and The Battered Spouse," "Evidentiary Issues in Drug Prosecutions," "New Developments in the Federal Sentencing Guidelines," and "Preparing to Cross Examine on Forensic Issues Pertaining to the Crime Scene."
Mr. Arenstein has defended citizens accused of crimes in Illinois, Missouri, West Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky and Alabama.
Recently, Mr. Arenstein traveled to Cuba as a member of an NACDL sponsored delegation which studied their criminal justice system meeting with professors, legislators, criminal defense counsel and prosecutors.

Bill Gallagher was awarded the 31st annual Robert C. Heeney Memorial Award, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers' most prestigious honor, on Aug. 6, 2011.
Bill Gallagher is a partner in the firm of Arenstein and Gallagher, His practice is limited to the representation of persons accused of criminal offenses in both state and federal courts.
He graduated with honors from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1987.
A former Assistant Public Defender in Lake and Cook Counties, Illinois for eight years, he has been in private practice in Cincinnati since 1994.
He is a past president of the Greater Cincinnati Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers where he is currently in charge of its national CLE programming which includes in excess of 10 national seminars per year.
A former adjunct at the DePaul University Law School in Chicago, he currently is an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati Law School where has been teaching since 2001.
In August of 2002 he was appointed by the Governor to the Ohio Sentencing Commission. A position he held for 7 years.
In 2007 he was appointed to the Hamilton County Policy and Structure Committee which addresses issues involved in the criminal justice system of Hamilton County.
He was voted on of the Top Lawyers in Ohio 2009 and 2011.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of Ohioans To Stop Executions.
In August of 2009 he was appointed as a Commissioner on the Hamilton County Public Defender Commission which oversees the operation, budget and policy decisions of the Public Defender Office. He was charged with leading the search and selection for the new Chief Public Defender in 2011.
Bill was instrumental in the establishment of an Innocence Project at the University of Cincinnati Law School. Since 2003, the Ohio Innocence Project has been responsible for the exoneration of 10 Ohio inmates.
In 2004, he was appointed by Chief Judge as the CJA Panel Representative for the Southern District of Ohio. In this position he represents the interests of over 150 private practitioners who represent indigent defendants in the federal courts located in Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati. He continues to serve in this position.
Bill has lectured in Florida, Nevada, California, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, South Carolina, Texas, Georgia and Nebraska on various subjects including Eye Witness Identification issues, Cross Examination, Social Networks, Death Penalty, Opening Statements, Theories and Themes and Ethics.
